Job Description: Supportive role in implementation of digitizing and archiving agency records. Project TV (Testing and Vaccines) Outreach Worker

The Project TV Outreach Worker is responsible for assisting in HIV/STI/COVID testing and COVID/flu vaccine efforts at BAO and in the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Administer HIV/STI/COVID tests at BAO and at community events, bars/night clubs, businesses,
churches, schools/universities, health fairs, festivals, etc.
2. Administer COVID vaccines and influenza vaccines.
3. Promote the COVID vaccine and Flu vaccine to individuals who are vaccine hesitant and/or have
limited access to vaccine services.
4. Attend community outreach events; must be able to work some nights and weekends.
5. Adhere to all BAO agency policies and procedures and patient confidentiality.
6. Supervision: Report to Project TV Coordinator


Seeking food pantry worker. Full time salary with great benefits. Must be able to regularly lift 40+ lbs and stand for extended periods. Team player with positive outlook, a can-do attitude, a strong work ethic, and good interpersonal communication. Food bank experience preferred. Grocery-stocking or restaurant prep experience useful. STEPS Social Worker

The purpose of STEPS (Support, Testing, Education, and Prevention for people who use Substances) is to build upon the remarkable findings of the previously-awarded HC3 program by providing streamlined HIV and HCV testing for the general public with an emphasis on those who use substances, strengths-based linkage to community PrEP providers, e.g., BAO’s Magic City Wellness Clinic (MCWC) or HIV and/or HCV treatment, and an evidence-based individual- and group-level intervention to motivate HIV, HCV, and substance use prevention and to encourage early retention in HIV and HCV treatment. This project addresses gaps in the local HIV care continuum for populations who use substances. STEPS supports the goals to: 1) Reduce the incidence of new HIV infection; 2) Improve public understanding of, involvement in, and support for HIV prevention; 3) Prevent/reduce behaviors that transmit HIV; 4) Increase individual knowledge of serostatus and improve referrals to appropriate prevention and treatment providers; and 5) Develop partnerships for HIV prevention. Utilizing a number of CDC EBIs and best practices, STEPS will enhance and expand comprehensive HIV prevention services for individuals who use substances who are newly and previously diagnosed with HIV and individuals who use substances whose HIV serostatus is negative or unknown.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Education: Bachelor of Social Work required; license preferred, but the agency will assist with licensure associated costs. 

  2. Must be comfortable working with populations who use substances, the LGBTQ+ community, individuals with HIV/STD/HCV.

  3. Complete the CDC training for Peer Support Intervention: HIV/STD/HCV 101, HIV/STD/HCV testing and counseling training, ARTAS, and Safety Counts

  4. Assist in identifying individuals who are newly diagnosed, previously diagnosed, or living with HIV through testing and outreach.

  5. Assist newly diagnosed HIV positive patients into care at the UAB 1917 Clinic, UAB Family Clinic, or the Magic City Wellness Center.

  6. Assist newly diagnosed HCV positive patients into care at the Magic City Wellness Center.

  7. Recruit for Safety Counts Intervention

  8. Adhere to all BAO agency policies and procedures and patient confidentiality.

  9. Supervision: Report to STEPS Project Coordinator

Licensed Attorney, Full Time 

Birmingham AIDS Outreach (BAO) is seeking to hire a highly motivated and mission-driven full-time Client Attorney to join BAO’s legal program. This position will be supervised by the Director of the BAO legal program, and will work alongside licensed attorneys, case managers, and the entire BAO professional team. This position will be responsible for rendering pro bono legal services for community members with HIV. The position will be based in Birmingham and will focus on legal advocacy with individuals, families, and communities impacted by HIV throughout the state of Alabama.

Candidates must be attorneys licensed by the Alabama State Bar and be members in good standing. Ideal candidates will be highly organized and comfortable with the use and development of technology for conducting legal services, legal education, and legal outreach; be comfortable working directly with people of diverse backgrounds and identities; have a demonstrable commitment to a broad range of social, racial, and economic justice issues, particularly as relates to people with HIV and people who identify as LGBTQ; and be skilled in verbal and written legal communications, briefs, and memos. Trial court experience is not required but is considered a plus for this position.

Interventionist, Full Time (2 Open Positions)

Interventionist needed for a federally-funded research study working with people with HIV. This person will be responsible for recruiting, consenting, and delivering the intervention to study participants.

Skills and qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree and previous experience working with people with HIV are preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills and familiarity with community resources in Birmingham are required. Work experience can substitute for degree requirements.
