SUPER Prevention Navigators (2)

SUPER (Substance Use Prevention Education and Response) is a new BAO project focusing on testing, education, and linkage to care for HIV/HCV, mental health, and substance use services for black men who have sex with men. We are looking for 2 prevention navigators who will identify and assist clients recruited into the program. Candidates must be comfortable working with populations who use substances, the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals with HIV/STD/HCV. There are no specific experience or educational requirements, but candidates who identify as the target demographic are strongly preferred. We are actively recruiting for a January 2023 start date.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Complete the CDC training for Peer Support Intervention: HIV/STD/HCV 101, HIV/STD/HCV testing and counseling training, ARTAS, and Safety Counts
2. Identify “hot spots” for testing individuals who use substances

3. Assist in identifying individuals who are newly diagnosed, previously diagnosed, or living with HIV, Hepatitis C, mental health issues, or substance use disorder through community testing and outreach.

4. Report and escort newly diagnosed HIV/STD/HCV positive patients to the Jefferson County Department of Health

5. Using evidence-based practices, assist positive patients into care at the UAB1917 Clinic, UAB Family Clinic, the Magic City Wellness Center, or other appropriate facility

6. Identify and find solutions to reduce patient’s barriers to medical care andlocate appropriate ancillary resources7. Participate in the production of educational outreach videos8. Adhere to all BAO agency policies and procedures and patient confidentiality9. Supervision: Report to SUPER Project Director


BAO Client Services Social Worker (2 open positions)

  • Bachelor of Social Work required; license preferred, agency will assist with licensure associated costs

  • Responsibilities include direct service provision and case management for persons living with HIV

Licensed Attorney, Full Time 

Birmingham AIDS Outreach (BAO) is seeking to hire a highly motivated and mission-driven full-time Client Attorney to join BAO’s legal program. This position will be supervised by the Director of the BAO legal program, and will work alongside licensed attorneys, case managers, and the entire BAO professional team. This position will be responsible for rendering pro bono legal services for community members with HIV. The position will be based in Birmingham and will focus on legal advocacy with individuals, families, and communities impacted by HIV throughout the state of Alabama.

Candidates must be attorneys licensed by the Alabama State Bar and be members in good standing. Ideal candidates will be highly organized and comfortable with the use and development of technology for conducting legal services, legal education, and legal outreach; be comfortable working directly with people of diverse backgrounds and identities; have a demonstrable commitment to a broad range of social, racial, and economic justice issues, particularly as relates to people with HIV and people who identify as LGBTQ; and be skilled in verbal and written legal communications, briefs, and memos. Trial court experience is not required but is considered a plus for this position.
